Our project in Patagonia aims at capturing and storing carbon through ecosystem conservation and restoration, and the planting of new trees to increase biodiversity.
A project built on collaboration with the Argentinian National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA)
This Project is born with Axel de Meeûs initiative with the desire to provide a more prosperous and harmonious future.
Despite climate change skepticism, the facts urge action. There is a need and an opportunity to unite governments, companies and organisations of all kinds, men and women, to create large-scale projects but also small projects and initiatives that can be multiplied, go viral and have a global impact !
To carry out our strategy, we will implement a 3 axis-strategy
Protect and regenerate the cypress - Austrocedrus chilensis
Assist in the preservation and planting of native species
Planting of mixed forests of native introduced and resilient species
The collaboration with INTA, Agricultural Experimental Station (EEA) of Bariloche, which will support us by providing and creating quality information for better decision making
An endangered species
The Patagonian cypress (Austrocedrus chilensis) is a native conifer with a wide geographic distribution in northern Patagonia in Argentina and Chile, covering over 1200 km. It is valued for its landscape and environmental services, as well as its timber quality. The area has dozens of old cypress trees (+500 years old) and hundreds of young cypress trees (1-20 years old), which have been slowed down by animal attacks. The plan includes inventorying and protecting them for survival.
Collect seeds in the cypress Sanctuary
We have a 300 ha cypress Sanctuary with old and young cypresses, some burned in a forest fire over 100 years ago. This area will be preserved and protected. In March 2023, over 1 kg of mountain cypress seeds were collected. Planting will begin in 2026.
3 patagonian native species in danger
Ñire, Lenga, Araucaria, are essential in the Patagonian region as they contribute to the formation of forests, providing shelter and food for various flora and fauna species, and playing a crucial role in ecosystem conservation.
However, these three species are threatened due to deforestation and climate change.
Indiscriminate logging and the expansion of cattle ranching and agriculture have reduced their natural habitat, endangering their survival.
Lenga is an evergreen tree that can vary in size from 3 to 30 meters, belonging to the Fagaceae family and living up to 300 years. Its scientific name is Nothofagus pumilio.
Ñire, or Southern Beech, is a small tree with a scientific name Nothofagus antarctica, belonging to the Fagaceae family. It can reach a height of up to 20 meters.
Araucaria, a symbol of the region, can live up to 1000 years and grow in areas with altitudes ranging from 900m to 1800m. Its scientific name is Araucaria araucana.
Planting mixed forest with natives and exotic species allows to enrich the ecosystem, make it resilient, encounter water-scarce conditions and minimize fire risks
Indeed, we select species adapted to survive in water-scarce conditions, in line with our desire to optimize the use of water resources
We will plant forests that are exclusively composed of diverse species!
Specialists have recommended this time frame but we can go faster with your support !
Basic infrastructure and looking for a purpose
• Installation of solar energy
• Renovation & construction of 2 bungalows
• Infrastructure (boat, water, mini sawmill,...)

Planting process learning
• Building of 12 km of roads
• Planting of 100.000 native and introduced species
• Starting the Patagonian Cypress process
• Capturing and distributing more water in the camp
• Creation of website and search of financing

• Planting of 570.000 trees
• Starting Maintenance plan
Planting - Phase 2
• Infrastructure plan, Phase 3
• Planting of 1.000.000 trees
• Maintenance and Pruning of the first trees planted (until 2049)
Planting - Phase 3
• Infrastructure plan, Phase 2
• Maintenance
To achieve our goal in 2049 “Planting 1 million trees”, we need funds for our non-profit organization.
Planting & maintaining 1 tree cost 4 $
Purchase of tree in nursery • 0,35 - 0,9 €
Tree planting cost • 0,4 - 1,5 €
Purchase and set-up protection device • 1,0 - 2,0 €
Infrastructure & equipment • 0,3 €
Maintenance and pruning every 8 years • 0,5 €
Project Management • 0,5 €
Carbon credit certification • 0,15 €
Because transparency is one of our core values, our accounts will be communicated every six months and our actions monitored by a third party, an expert organization in carbon project development

Almahue Forest is a NGO aiming at capturing and storing carbon by preserving, regenerating and planting trees.
Axel de Meeûs’ objective is to plant + 1 million trees and to rewild + 1000 Ha in the Almahue Valle by 2049
Our project in Patagonia aims at capturing and storing carbon by preserving, regenerating and planting trees in El Valle Almahué.
The Almahue Valley, a natural wonder that has fallen victim to human activity and global warming.
Provide more prosperous and harmonious future where the interaction between humans and nature mutually enhances each other.
