Almahue Forest

WHO WE ARE

A personal story, a long-term commitment.

Axel de Meeûs, founder of Almahue Forest

Almahue Forest began in 2022, on 4,300 hectares of Argentine Patagonia. The project is led by Axel de Meeûs, a Belgian connected to Patagonia since 1987, who lived for more than twenty years in South America.

At first, Almahue was meant to be funded through carbon credits. An in-depth study showed that, in such a dry climate, the return would take around 25 years. The choice was to go back to essentials: fund concrete actions, with partners who want to see nature recover.

Almahue is not for profit. Contributions are received by the Almahue Forest AISBL in Belgium and used for work in the field. Each year, Axel spends more than five months at Almahue following the plantations, the water and natural regeneration, with scientific support from INTA.

We plant for a future we may never see.
